04 / YARN TO GREY FABRIC

The making of a weave.

A look at how yarn becomes woven fabric. Grey, or greige, fabric is the unfinished cloth before dyeing and finishing.

  1. 01

    Yarn is prepared for the lengthwise warp and crosswise weft.

  2. 02

    Parallel warp threads are arranged and drawn through the loom.

  3. 03

    Jets of air carry the weft across the warp to form woven cloth.

  4. 04

    The woven cloth is wound into rolls in its unfinished state.

FROM YARN TO CLOTH

It starts with the yarn.

Lengthwise warp and crosswise weft are the two thread systems that form woven fabric. Preparation brings them together for the loom.
